I planted a tree this weekend. Clearly I was somewhere other than Aberdeen, SD because no one plants trees in South Dakota in November.
But they do in San Diego!
Have you ever gone somewhere warm and sunny when everyone you know back home is freezing their weebles off? It’s kind of awesome.
But I’m not here to brag. I’m here to ask you a question:
When did you last plant a tree?
I don’t mean physically, I mean mentally. When was the last time you thought deeply about something you want to accomplish and then dug into the ground of your being and allowed it to grow?
For me, it’s a dream that’s going to take a very long time to reach its full height. Just like my little baby oak tree, my dream may only grow a foot a year.
Maybe your dream is like bamboo and is ready to shoot up quickly. That’s fun! You might see it fully developed by the end of the year.
One thing is in common though, with whatever we plant. We have to visit it often.
We might have a little sapling we plant but then forget to water it. Dreams need to be watered by revisiting them frequently and giving them a little maintenance to help them reach that next level of development. Maybe there is an invitation you need to extend or a question you need to ask to reach that next step.
What’s your dream? Have you planted it in the past, only to watch it die? Don’t stay discouraged. Grab a fresh seed and get digging.
